Company
History
In
the postwar years of the late 1940's in the small river town of Elizabeth City, North
Carolina, Mr. Billy Houtz and Mr. Killian Barwick combined their considerable business and
furniture designing skills to begin HOUTZ & BARWICK.
Having
made lawn and beach chairs for their friends and neighbors at no charge (except the
occasional gift of liquid spirits!), starting a business to manufacture outdoor sporting
furniture when their war jobs wound down seemed a natural step.
Today,
some 50 years later, HOUTZ & BARWICK continues in the same small North Carolina town,
still proudly predicated on the original concept of Mr. Houtz and Mr. Barwick: TO PRODUCE
TOP QUALITY OUTDOOR SPORTING FURNITURE FOR AN HONEST PRICE, STANDING BEHIND ITS PRODUCTS
WITH FULL CUSTOMER SERVICE AND A LIFETIME FRAME GUARANTEE.
We
are very proud of this concept. In fact it is our constant guideline and mantra. In
today's world of imports, mass merchants and discount stores, it is very difficult to
insist on providing a top quality product to a retail world which seems interested only in
the lowest possible price.
Over
the years HOUTZ & BARWICK has received thousands of letters from satisfied customers.
Many have had our products for 20 or 30 years, and just write for a replacement cover, or
to buy another chair or stool for themselves or for gifts. They always tell us how durable
and comfortable our furniture is, how much they have enjoyed their products, and
invariably how refreshing and unusual it is to find our company STILL in business and
